Attorney Thomas Cannavo has been practicing law in New Jersey since 1985. A graduate of Rutgers College and Rutgers-Camden Law School, he has extensive experience in criminal and municipal appellate matters related to DWI. He understands how difficult it is to face DWI charges and passionate about getting the best results for each of his clients.
Mr. Cannavo has over 20 years of experience as a prosecutor in Ocean County and Atlantic County. He served four years as Deputy Attorney General n the Division of Criminal Justice. He is a certified criminal law instructor who has taught with the Farleigh Dickinson University Paralegal program and supervised the municipal prosecutors in Ocean County for 10 years.
Mr. Cannavo has published a chapter in the New Jersey’s Prosecutor’s Manual entitled “Municipal Court Appeals.” He is an in-demand lecturer who has presented across the state on DWI-related issues including refusals, sentencing, and post-conviction relief proceedings.
A member of the New Jersey State Bar, Mr. Cannavo is also admitted to the Bar of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United State Supreme Court. He has been the attorney of record in many appellate and federal habeas cases. He co-authored the defense brief of State v. Adkins for the New Jersey State Bar Association, in which the defense argued successfully that search warrants are required to take blood from DWI suspects.
